III. THE ASTRAL AS A MIRROR OF THE MIND



The astral is malleable. It responds instantly to thought and feeling, shaping its landscapes according to the traveler’s inner state. If the mind is clouded, the astral appears turbulent; if the heart is luminous, the astral becomes radiant.



Three Main Layers



  1. Lower Astral – Heavy with dense emotions like fear, anger, and greed. This is the realm of shadowy entities, chaotic dreamscapes, and purgatorial zones.
  2. Middle Astral – A vibrant world of dream-like cities, schools, and meeting places. Here, guides and fellow travelers may be encountered.
  3. Higher Astral – Luminous, serene, filled with colors and harmonies unknown to Earth. This is the realm of archetypes, gods, and angels.






IV. HOW WE ACCESS THE ASTRAL



We visit the astral every night in dreams, though most forget upon waking. Conscious access requires intention and training. The main gateways are:


  1. Lucid Dreaming – Becoming aware within the dream and directing the experience.
  2. Astral Projection – The conscious exit of the subtle body from the physical, often preceded by vibrations or a sense of floating.
  3. Shamanic Journeying – Entering trance states through rhythm, breath, or plant allies.
  4. Ritual Magic – Symbolic ascent through sacred names, sigils, and visualization.
  5. Near-Death Experiences – Sudden shifts into astral perception during physical crisis.






V. THE INHABITANTS OF THE ASTRAL



The astral teems with life. Its residents fall into several groups:


  • Human Travelers – Dreamers, projectors, and the newly dead.
  • Nature Spirits – Elementals of air, fire, water, earth, and ether.
  • Thought-Forms – Energy-constructs born from thought and emotion, ranging from minor shapes to powerful egregores.

VI. BEYOND THE ASTRAL: THE HIGHER PLANES

2. The Causal Plane

3. The Buddhic Plane



The realm of oneness. Here, all beings are experienced as interconnected facets of the same divine whole. Compassion is natural and infinite.



4. The Atmic Plane



Will in perfect harmony with cosmic will. The soul becomes an instrument of the Divine Plan.



5. The Monadic Plane



The pure spark of God-consciousness. Beyond this, there is only the ineffable Absolute.

  • Tibetan Buddhism – The Bardos, transitional realms after death.
  • Hermeticism – The Three Worlds: Physical, Astral, and Spiritual.
