空性大光明経 (Kūshō Daikōmyō-kyō)

Sutra of the Great Luminous Emptiness

序分 (Preface)

Japanese

如是我聞。

一時、仏、摩訶毘盧遮那大殿に住して、無量の衆菩薩と倶に在す。

Romaji

Nyoze gamon.

Ichi-ji, hotoke, Maka-Birushana daiden ni jūshite,

muryō no shū bosatsu to tomo ni arisu.

English

Thus have I heard.

At one time, the Buddha dwelled in the Great Hall of Mahāvairocana,

together with countless Bodhisattvas.

本文 (Main Text)

Romaji

Kū wa katachi naku,

katachi wa kū yori shōzu.

Issai no koe, issai no hikari, issai no shii wa,

kitaru koto naku, saru koto nashi.

Daihi wa kokū no gotoku,

kagirinaku shujō o tsutsumi,

daichi wa taiyō no gotoku,

yami o yaburite michi o terasu.

Moshi hito, kono kyō o juji shi,

ichinen no aida ni kū o kanzuru toki,

sunawachi jippō sekai ni,

senbutsu no kago aran.

English

Emptiness has no form,

and all forms arise from Emptiness.

Every sound, every light, every thought,

neither comes nor goes.

Great Compassion is like the vast sky,

embracing beings without end.

Great Wisdom is like the sun,

breaking through the darkness to reveal the Way.

If one upholds this sutra,

and in a single thought perceives Emptiness,

then in the ten directions of the worlds,

a thousand Buddhas will grant protection.

結分 (Conclusion)

Japanese

如来は告げ給う、

「心を空に帰せよ。

空に帰するはすなわち智慧なり。

智慧はすなわち慈悲なり。

慈悲はすなわち仏なり。」

衆菩薩、歓喜し、信受し奉る。

Romaji

Nyorai wa tsuge tamau,

“Kokoro o kū ni kisaeyo.

Kū ni kisuru wa sunawachi chie nari.

Chie wa sunawachi jihi nari.

Jihi wa sunawachi hotoke nari.”

Shū bosatsu, kanjiki shi, shinju shitamatsuru.

English

The Tathāgata declares:

“Return your heart to Emptiness.

To return to Emptiness is true Wisdom.

Wisdom itself is Compassion.

Compassion itself is Buddha.”

All the Bodhisattvas rejoiced,

and faithfully received his words.
