Blessing of Amaterasu-Ōmikami

天照大御神の大前に白す。

掛巻も畏き天照坐皇大神、

高天原に御座し、

天の八重雲を押し分け、

葦原中国を照らし給ふ御光、

萬代に絶えず、

朝な夕なに瑞雲を分け、

御稜威もて八方を鎮め、

清き祓ひを垂れ給ふ。

大御神、

御心のまにまに、

天津日嗣を守り、

御祖の神勅を守らせ給ひ、

八百万の神々を率ゐ、

天地四方に恵みを降らせ給ふ。

ここに、

我らが心、清明にして、

直き正しき道を歩むべく、

大御鏡の如く映し給へ。

その御光、

暗きを破り、

迷ひを祓ひ、

清き大道を示し給へ。

御剣の威に依りて、

邪しきものを斬り祓ひ、

魔を退け、

真心の勇を賜ひ、

大和の国土を護り、

我らが命、安らけく、

長久に保たしめ給へ。

赤き勾玉の魂結びに依りて、

人の縁を清め、

心を和らげ、

互ひに助け合ひ、

愛と誠とを以て、

世を満たさしめ給へ。

天つ神、

国つ神、

八百万の神、

高御産巣日神、

神産巣日神の御子、

天照坐皇大神よ、

永遠に、

我らが祈りを聞き給ひ、

神籬に降り座して、

福寿を垂れ給へ。

かく宣らく、

天の磐座より、

瑞の御光を放ちて、

白き雲、青き山、清き水に至るまで、

皆悉く御稜威に包まれ、

穢れなく、

正しき道を歩まむことを。

恐み恐みも白す。

Blessing of Amaterasu-Ōmikami

(English Poetic Rendering)

Before the great and radiant presence of Amaterasu-Ōmikami,

We bow with hearts cleansed in reverence.

O Most High, most august Sun Goddess,

Who dwells enthroned in the High Plain of Heaven,

You who part the eightfold clouds of the sky

And pour forth the light that nourishes the world,

Your brilliance never wanes through the ages.

From dawn to dusk, from dusk to dawn,

You scatter auspicious clouds,

Your divine authority stilling the winds,

Calming the storms of all eight directions,

Pouring down a rain of purity upon the earth.

Great Goddess,

By the free movement of your heart,

You guard the heavenly lineage of the Sun,

Keeping the ancient commandments of your ancestors.

With the hosts of the eight million kami,

You pour blessings to the four corners of heaven and earth.

Here and now,

Let our hearts be made clear and bright,

That we may walk the straight, true path.

Like the Great Sacred Mirror,

May we reflect only truth.

Let your light pierce the darkness,

Disperse all confusion,

And show us the pure and noble way.

By the might of your Sacred Sword,

Cut away the twisted and unjust,

Banish the shadow-spirits and the poison of deceit,

Grant us the courage of pure hearts.

Guard the Land of Yamato,

And let our lives be safe,

Protected in peace for uncounted years.

By the bond of the Red Magatama Jewel,

Purify the ties between people,

Soften the hardness of hearts,

Let us aid one another,

And fill the world with love and sincerity.

O Heavenly Deities,

O Earthly Deities,

O vast assembly of the eight million kami,

Children of Takamimusubi-no-Kami and Kamimusubi-no-Kami,

Hear the prayer of your people.

Amaterasu-Ōmikami,

Eternal Sun,

Ever hear our words,

Descend to dwell among the sacred pillars,

And grant the gifts of fortune and long life.

Thus is it proclaimed:

From the heavenly rock seat you shine,

Casting forth waves of divine radiance.

Let your blessings cover all —

The white clouds, the green mountains,

The clear waters,

Until all is enveloped in your sacred power,

Freed from stain,

Walking always in the path that is straight and good.

So with awe, with awe, we make our declaration.
